SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A member of the Hells Angels has been arrested on suspicion of possessing 748 tablets of the illegal drug Ecstasy, an amphetamine-like narcotic, authorities said Thursday.

William “Gunner” Wolf, a longshoreman by trade, was jailed Wednesday night after detectives stopped his car on Harbor Boulevard near Olivas Park in Ventura, Sheriff’s Capt. Keith Parks said.

The tablets, with an estimated street value of $15,000, were found in the car, Parks said.

Shortly after the arrest, detectives searched Wolf’s home in a beachfront community near 5th Street and Harbor Boulevard in Oxnard, Parks said.

Deputies seized several rifles, shotguns and handguns.

The weapons may be legally registered to Wolf but were confiscated as part of the investigation, Parks said.

Wolf was booked on two felony charges of allegedly possessing a controlled substance for sales and transporting a controlled substance. He was released about 3 p.m. Thursday after posting $50,000 bail.

Parks said the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into narcotic sales allegedly being made by Wolf.

“That’s what we were working on was him,” Parks said. “I don’t know what else will shake loose on this.”

Local Hells Angels President George Christie Jr. said he believes the arrest was another attempt by law enforcement to gather evidence to solidify drug and tax-evasion cases against him and his estranged wife.

Since May, authorities have served more than two dozen warrants on Christie and his associates, Christie said.
