Johnson Wins After Disqualification
The NASCAR Super Late Model main event looked more like a demolition derby than a race Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway. Greg Pursley of Simi Valley, the pole-sitter, overtook Rod Johnson with 10 laps to go and thought he had won the race in front of 4,859, but after a post-race inspection he was disqualified because he had an illegal intake manifold, giving Johnson the win.
There were six caution flags and only 10 of 23 drivers who started were running at the end.
Steve Dyer’s Chevrolet pulled away to win the American Racing Truck main event. Dyer led a majority of the 20 laps. The race was shortened five laps due to curfew.
Jeff Green led all but one lap in winning the NASCAR Super Stock race.
