Second-ranked Foothill, coming off its victory in the Santa Maria Righetti tournament, continued to roll Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over El Modena in a Century League opener.

Foothill, (16-3, 1-0) which shared last year’s league title with El Modena, scored two runs in the first inning and one in the third against Erin Norton.

Norton (2-2), a Times All-Orange County second-team pitcher last season, was making her first start in the circle since injuring her ankle more than a month ago.

“I was nervous the whole day, but when I got out there, it came back,” Norton said. “I didn’t struggle, but I could have done better. It’s still sore a little bit.

“I’ve been doing arm drills and stuff, but it’s kind of different when you’re not using your legs.”

Jaime Clark capitalized on Norton’s rustiness, driving in two runs, including an RBI double in the first inning. Clark, who had six RBIs last season, has 21 this season.

Three runs were plenty for another all-county pitcher, sophomore Courtney Fossatti (11-1), who gave up two hits and struck out nine.

El Modena is 8-8, 0-1.
