L.A. Courthouse
I enjoyed David Ferrell’s observations about the huge Los Angeles County Courthouse (Saturday Journal, April 10). I’d like to add that as a lawyer who deals with the courthouse staff in person or by phone on a daily basis, I find that the vast majority of the judges, clerks, court attendants and cafeteria workers handle their jobs with professionalism, unending patience and even a smile--notwithstanding the bleak physical conditions they work under.
In our firm’s civil law practice, we often have a choice between filing our clients’ lawsuits in the downtown court or the branch courts, such as Santa Monica or Long Beach. Whenever possible, we file in the downtown court because of the people who make the legal system work as well as it does.

My compliments to Ferrell. The writing was superb. It was so descriptive of a building beset by floods and insects, with dark, chained hallways, that I was struck with the idea that Disneyland ought to tear down its current haunted mansion and replace it with this one. I was torn by intense curiosity to go see the place for myself, or to run in terror if I ever pass by.
