Ventura resident Rita Ann Hooper died of a heart attack Wednesday at age 48.

Hooper was born May 20, 1950, in Pilsting, Germany. She moved to Ventura from Rosemead in the early 1980s.

Hooper had been a clerk for the Ventura Unified School District for 18 years. She worked in the district office for 12 of those years, and in the maintenance division for the last six.

She was also co-president of the Ventura Classified Employees Assn.

“It pretty much took up most of her time,” Hooper’s son, Michael Hooper, said of his mother’s union work. “She believed in fairness.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hooper.

Hooper is survived by her son, Michael Hooper of Ventura; her mother, Hedwig Mullaly of Montebello; a brother, Steven Mullaly of West Covina; and two sisters, Eileen Flores of Whittier and Diane Weakley of Fillmore.

There will be a visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ventura.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church with burial to follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura is handling the arrangements.
