Fire Notices

Share

In the April 11 editorial, “ Fire Notice Went Astray,” you refer to a Fire Department spokesman saying that previous notices had been sent regarding brush clearance to those living in the hills.

This is utter nonsense. I live one block south of Ventura Boulevard in an area totally flat and fully developed and have been receiving such notices for years.

Perhaps before homeowners are asked to clean up their properties, the Fire Department should be asked to clean up its act.

Re “Homeowners Fuming Over Fire Notice,” April 6.

Your reporter Hilary E MacGregor’s cream puff article totally missed the point. Why didn’t your reporter dig out the facts to inform us exactly which council member proposed this end run around Prop. 13, who voted for it, who signed off on this poorly worded document.

Had your reporter interviewed various council members, it would have been interesting to read about their explanations regarding the “self-inspection affidavit of compliance” and other questions that could be asked.

When you consider the cost to print, handle and the postage to mail the first document, followed by a letter of apology from the fire chief, and then most likely another changed payment request, is it any wonder city departments haven’t the money they need? . . .

I, for one, will not reelect my councilman if he voted for this.
