Jim Leyland is learning just how much of a hitter’s park Coors Field is.

One day after his team gave up 20 runs to the Atlanta Braves, Leyland watched the Colorado Rockies rally for three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Montreal Expos, 11-10, Monday night.

Mike Lansing had a game-tying run-scoring single and Jeff Reed’s sacrifice fly capped Colorado’s second dramatic comeback in three days. The Rockies defeated the Braves with three runs in the ninth Saturday.

“I’ll be put through the wringer before this year is over,” Leyland said. “I’m going to be Don Knotts and Telly Savalas all rolled into one. I’m telling you, I like it too.”

Colorado’s comeback came at the expense of Montreal closer Ugueth Urbina, who blew his first save opportunity in 22 chances. His last blown save came June 17 against the New York Mets.

St. Louis 6, Milwaukee 2--Slumping rookie J.D. Drew hit his first home run of the season and drove in three runs, leading Kent Bottenfield and the Cardinals over the Brewers at Milwaukee.

Drew, who began the night batting only .176, also tripled, singled and scored three times. The Cardinals won for the fifth time in six games overall, and have won six in a row at County Stadium.

Bottenfield (3-0) pitched seven scoreless innings and gave up only three hits, giving him an 0.98 ERA. He struck out four and walked three.

Mark McGwire went 0 for 3 with two walks, lowering his average to .243.

Arizona 3, Philadelphia 2--Omar Daal pitched four-hit ball for 8 1/3 innings and Matt Williams homered as the Diamondbacks defeated the Phillies at Phoenix to reach the .500 mark for the first time in franchise history.

The Diamondbacks, who went 65-97 in their expansion season, improved to 7-7. The crowd of 29,704 was the smallest ever at Bank One Ballpark.

Daal (2-0) retired the first 14 batters before Scott Rolen hit a 473-foot home run, the longest at Bank One Ballpark.

Pittsburgh 3, San Diego 0--Jason Kendall, the catcher who leads off, had two singles, stole three bases and scored twice as the Pirates won at San Diego.

Kendall, the son of former Padre catcher Fred Kendall, scored on Jim Leyritz’s passed ball in the first inning and was on base for Brian Giles’ two-out, two-run single in the eighth.

That was enough to make a winner of Pete Schourek (1-1), who won his third consecutive start against San Diego. He scattered four hits in six innings.

San Francisco 5, Florida 4--Scott Servais hit a tie-breaking double in the eighth inning to give the Giants a victory at San Francisco and extend the Marlins’ losing streak to four games.

Servais, who was two for three, doubled to the left-field corner off Antonio Alfonseca. He drove in Rich Aurilia, who hit a leadoff single and stole second.
