Sean Tallaire scored two goals and Patrik Augusta added three assists as the Ice Dogs defeated the Kansas City Blades, 4-0, in the opener of their best-of-three International Hockey League playoff series.

Goalie Manny Legace started and faced 21 shots before leaving after the second period because of an apparent injury. Ryan Bach stopped 12 shots in the third period to preserve the shutout.

Nathan Lafayette began the scoring at 8:46 of the first period, Mark Ferner made it 2-0 in the second period, and Tallaire scored the last two goals.

Game 2 of the first-round series is tonight at the Long Beach Arena, with a third game also at Long Beach on Sunday night if necessary.
