Good News for Bolsa Chica

* Re “Court Turns Back Bolsa Chica Development Plans,” April 17:
What great news! The bird of prey habitat and Warner Pond on the Bolsa Chica mesa have been saved, and the entire proposed development project must go back to the California Coastal Commission.
Let’s hope this time the Coastal Commission follows the law and properly protects the valuable resources on both the mesa and the wetlands from the impacts of 1,235 housing units.
The Bolsa Chica Land Trust fully understands the Coastal Act cannot prevent all housing on the mesa.
However, our more than 4,000 members expect the Coastal Commission to follow the law and limit this development. After all, this is just a huge housing development planned for an area immediately adjacent to the wetlands that the state is spending tens of millions of dollars to restore. Where is the common sense in plopping over 1,000 housing units on top of restored wetlands?
It remains our hope that the mesa can be acquired at a fair market value and the entire Bolsa Chica ecosystem, mesa and wetlands, can be preserved and restored together.
