Police arrested a North Hollywood parolee Saturday in connection with the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old man earlier in the day.

Shawn Probst, 34, was arrested without incident at 4:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of Calvert Street, said Det. Mike Coffey of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.

Officers said Probst would be booked on suspicion of murder.

Probst is suspected of stabbing two men outside a house in the 4900 block of Auckland Avenue early Saturday, police said.

Daniel Singer, 18, of North Hollywood died at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank about 2 a.m. He suffered wounds to the neck, Coffey said.

Police would not release the name of a 19-year-old North Hollywood man who was stabbed in the stomach. The man was taken to an area hospital, Coffey said, where he was in “guarded” condition and was expected to survive.

According to police, the incident began about 1:15 a.m. when Probst and a friend tried to join a party at the Auckland Avenue house. When they were barred from entering the home, Probst began making a racket, Coffey said.

“He was standing in front of the street, talking loudly and drawing attention,” Coffey said.

When Singer and another man went outside and told Probst to lower his voice, Probst allegedly took out a buck knife and stabbed Singer, police said.

“It was that simple. There was no confrontation, no challenge to fight,” Coffey said.

Probst is on parole for a 1993 conviction for assault with a deadly weapon, for which he was sentenced to seven years, Coffey said. Probst was released from prison in July 1996.

After being stabbed, Singer was able to run away from Probst, Coffey said. He stumbled for about 300 feet before collapsing on the street. When the second man tried to help Singer, Probst allegedly stabbed him in the stomach, Coffey said.

The attacker fled in a truck, and residents awakened by the noise called police. Officers found both victims lying on the street.

Singer did not know Probst, police said, but knew the man accompanying him. Probst was to be held at Van Nuys Jail after being questioned by police. The attack was not gang-related, Coffey said.
