Memorial Erected to Hero Patrol Officer
The Ventura Port District and the city have erected a memorial to Harbor Patrol Officer Paul Korber, who died last year while trying to rescue a woman and her two sons who were caught in a rip current.
Law enforcement officers, city officials and Korber’s family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to dedicate the monument.
The bronze plaque--with a bas-relief likeness of Korber--is mounted to a granite boulder at the base of the south jetty, near where Korber
attempted the rescue that took his life.
Korber, 45, died March 15, 1998, and had been a Ventura harbor patrol officer for 10 years.
