About 100 faculty, staff and students will collaborate to redesign the Cal State Fullerton Quad and Pollack Library South’s ground floor today and Friday. It will be done through an architectural process known as “the charette”--an intense effort to solve an architectural problem within a limited time. The process is being facilitated by university planner Patricia Shoemaker, who helped redesign the city of Brea.

Participants will break into teams and spend all day today setting values and goals and considering design solutions. Friday, architects and landscape and urban designers will use those ideas to come up with an overall concept and vision, which will be presented at 3 p.m. A final vision plan should be complete by May. Implementation could take a couple years, Shoemaker said. “We’re relying on the campus for their creativity and their innovation,” she said.
