The city and Century Communications Corp. are still negotiating franchise renewal terms for cable service for the city’s 2,100 homes. According to Councilman Russell Patterson, the city had hoped to have a signed deal by the end of July. “We’re champing at the bit to get this done,” he said. City officials are seeking to update the current system with state-of-the-art technology, including high-speed Internet access. The city’s previous 15-year contract with Century expired in February, after a two-year extension, Patterson said. According to Penny Contos, regional manager of Century Communications, the deal should be finalized in the next few weeks. “The outlook is positive,” she said.
