Midbury Street residents soon will find ballots in their mailboxes as the city moves forward with a proposal to annex the unincorporated Los Angeles County neighborhood. The City Council on Tuesday scheduled a Sept. 21 public hearing to count the votes and give Midbury residents a chance to voice any concerns they have about becoming Brea citizens. Each of the 42 homes in the area, just north of the city limits, will get one vote.

The homes would be charged up to $175 a year for 20 years to help pay for the street improvements in the area. Officials from Los Angeles and Orange counties have contributed nearly $50,000 to the estimated $196,000 improvement cost. If the annexation is approved by Midbury residents and the Local Agency Formation Agency, the neighborhood could become a part of Brea within a year.
