A 15-year-old youth was killed Friday when two youths on bicycles opened fire on a parked car in which he was sitting. Police later arrested a juvenile believed to be one of the assailants, officials said.

The shooting occurred about 3 p.m., when witnesses in the 800 block of Tafolla Street reported to police that they saw two youths on bicycles shoot into a white sedan, hitting a boy inside, said Matt Reynolds, spokesman for Placentia police.

The car’s driver sped to the victim’s home near La Jolla Street and Arnold Drive, where the youth died, Reynolds said.

Alex Segovia, 64, father of the dead youth, identified him as Jason Segovia, a sophomore at Horizon High School. Segovia said his son had left the house about 10:30 a.m. to see friends down the street.

“That was it,” the father said. “The next time I saw him was when he was just lying there on the ground,” where paramedics had moved him as they tried to save his life.

One suspect was arrested nearby, and dogs were aiding the search for another juvenile who was last seen in the area of Melrose Street and Crowther Avenue. Three youths in the sedan at the time of the shooting were questioned.

Police would not disclose the identify the arrested suspect because he is a juvenile, Reynolds said.
