Don’t Wait for Public to Pay for This Team

A note to the high-ranking NFL official quoted on the front page of Friday’s paper, regarding the non-awarding of an expansion franchise to the Coliseum, “We’re putting a stake in the heart of the Coliseum . . . “

Wrong. We, the concerned taxpayers of Los Angeles, had already used that stake to cut a hole in the pocketbooks of NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and his greedy cronies, the 31 NFL owners who want to get rich using our money.

I would like to be among the first to congratulate Houston upon its selection as the proud owner of the NFL’s newest franchise, the White Elephants.

P.S. Losing the White Elephants doesn’t mean we will now be desperate to bring the Raiders back. Stay away, Al.

Please move whatever must be moved to ensure that L.A. gets that NFL franchise.

I want L.A. to be the winner over Houston, since Houston citizens are being taken to the cleaners on the stadium deal proposed here.

We are already financing a palace for the baseball team that gives the team owner a guaranteed excessive profit for as far into the future as he is willing to own the team. This is asinine. I can’t get the taxpayers to furnish me with a state-of-the-art factory and assure me that I will not lose any money for the next 30 years or so.

Please, get things together and get that team. It would fit nicely in your sphere. Here it would be an anomaly.

Los Angeles needs a professional football team? Fine with me. Let’s get Manchester United.

NFL: Go to hell or Texas, whichever is closer.
