Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza failed in her bid to win a fifth amateur tournament this year, losing to defending champion Beth Bauer of Cramerton, N.C., 2 and 1, in the 36-hole final of the North and South Amateur Friday at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.

Booth, ranked No. 1 nationally, was two down after starting with two bogeys and was four down to No. 2-ranked Bauer after the morning 18.

But Booth rallied on the second 18, pulling to within one after birdies at 5, 7, 9, 11 and 14. But she couldn’t recover from a double bogey at 15 that put her two down with three holes to play.
