* Update--It’s win or be eliminated for the Galaxy tonight when it faces the Columbus Crew in a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal game at Titan Stadium on the Cal State Fullerton campus. Forwards Clint Mathis (knee surgery) and Carlos Hermosillo (back strain) remain sidelined, but defender Daniel Hernandez (bruised leg) is listed as probable. The Galaxy reached the quarterfinals with a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Flash of the A-League on July 20. The Crew advanced by defeating the Carolina Dynamo of the D-3 Pro League, 3-0, on July 13. The Open Cup final will be played Sept. 14 at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, and televised live on ESPN. In another quarterfinal game tonight, the A-League’s Rochester Raging Rhinos will play the 1997 Open Cup champion Dallas Burn at Frontier Field in Rochester, N.Y. Friday, the Tampa Bay Mutiny hosts the Colorado Rapids, while two A-League teams meet in the remaining quarterfinal when the Staten Island Vipers travel to North Carolina on Aug. 18 to play the Charleston Battery, which last week upset two-time Major League Soccer champion Washington D.C. United, 4-3 in overtime, in the final match of the third round.
