The East Chapman Improvement Committee asked the City Council’s permission at Tuesday’s meeting to disband after 22 years of service. Originally formed to advise the city on the architectural concerns of residents in the El Modena area, the group no longer is needed, founding member Robert Torres said. “There is no more land here that we can develop,” Torres said. Several residents at the meeting voiced their interest in continuing the committee. “It’s a very important street,” said Mark Sandford, an Orange Park Acres resident. “We move through it, shop there daily, our kids go to school there.” The council will consider the relevance of the committee and whether its influence should go beyond the El Modena area of Chapman Avenue.
