The final round of the PGA Championship, featuring 23-year-old Tiger Woods and 19-year-old Sergio Garcia, got an overnight rating of 7.7 with an 18% share of the audience.

Those are the highest numbers for the final round of a PGA Championship since at least 1986. Overnight ratings before 1986 were not available. An overnight rating is an average for the top 44 markets in the country.

In Los Angeles, the rating for Sunday’s round was a 7.5 with a 19 share. The last quarter-hour got an 11.4 with a 24 in L.A.

Saturday, the L.A. rating was a 5.3 with a 16 and the overnight average was a 4.7 with a 13.

A rating is the percentage of TV households in the nation tuned to a program, and each rating point represents 994,000 homes. The share is the percentage tuned to a program among those televisions on at the time.
