Buhner’s Suspension Reduced
Seattle Mariner outfielder Jay Buhner’s suspension for his part in a brawl last month was reduced from four games to three by the American League.
Teammate Frank Rodriguez was unable to get the league to reduce his seven-game suspension for a different incident.
Buhner was disciplined for his part in a bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Dodgers last month. Rodriguez was suspended for his role in a fight during an Aug. 6 game against the New York Yankees.
Rodriguez’s suspension began Tuesday. Buhner’s will start when Rodriguez’s ends.

Cal Ripken became eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, but it appears as if it will be several more days before he rejoins the Baltimore Orioles.
Ripken hasn’t played since July 31 because of nerve irritation in his lower back.
It’s the second stint on the disabled list this season for Ripken, who played in a major league-record 2,632 consecutive games before voluntarily ending the streak last September.

Jeter and Posada’s images will be digitally inserted in the picture.
