A 35-year-old Thousand Oaks man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his wife several times during an argument at the couple’s home, authorities said.

Betsey Cotter, 51, was in fair condition Friday night at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks after being injured shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, hospital spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman said.

Cotter’s husband, John Ross Cotter, also stabbed himself during the incident, sheriff’s spokesman Eric Nishimoto said.

Before the attack, Cotter and her husband argued in their home on the 2400 block of Oak Shore Drive, authorities said.

When deputies arrived, they found Betsey Cotter in a neighbor’s front yard, authorities said.

She was bleeding from stab wounds on her face, chest, arm and hands, authorities said.

John Ross Cotter was found in his front yard suffering from a stab wound in his abdomen.

He was in fair condition Friday night at Ventura County Medical Center, where he was guarded by deputies.

Authorities believe the stabbing occurred inside the couple’s home.

Deputies found a trail of blood leading from the house to the front lawn and they also recovered a knife at the scene, Nishimoto said.
