Northridge Officials Must Look in Mirror

While Cal State Northridge has completed the investigation into the misdeeds of former coach Ron Ponciano, they have not begun the investigation into their own behavior nor affixed responsibility where it truly belongs.

Ponciano took the rap, but unexplained are the following conditions: an athletic department that is always operating at a deficit, a failure of the fund-raisers to produce the promised corporate sponsors for a sports arena, how to comply with the Dec. 31 deadline for the Cal-NOW gender-equity agreement, what would happen if the Big Sky Conference refuses to renew the university’s membership, and why there is no tangible financial support from Valley residents and apathetic alumni.

These are problems that won’t go away and can’t be solved by glib, self-serving press releases.
