Sleepy Molokai Wakes Up to Luxury

Share

The sleepy “old Hawaiian” island of Molokai, home to just two hotels plus assorted condos and campsites, goes upscale Friday with the opening of the 22-room Lodge at Molokai Ranch.

Perched 1,100 feet above the seashore in Maunaloa, the lodge, run by the same folks who operate “tentalows” (bungalow-like tents with beds and bathrooms) nearby, has a dining room, swimming pool, gardens and spa.

There are 20 standard rooms, going for brochure rates of $295 per night, and two $550 suites with skylights for in-room stargazing. The rooms are spread over three rustic-style buildings with wraparound verandas, and are decorated with artwork and other items from Hawaii of the 1920s and ‘30s.

Luxury prices notwithstanding, the Lodge at Molokai Ranch was already booked through Sept. 10 as of last week, a spokeswoman said. For reservations after that date, call (877)-PANIOLO.
