Get Ready to Make Hay of 61st Annual Alfalfa Fest

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the 61st Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival when it opens Friday, showcasing various forms of entertainment, carnival rides and exhibits.

The fair will be at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, 155 E. Avenue I in Lancaster, and ends Sept. 6.

Entertainers will include Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Beach Boys Family and Friends, John Michael Montgomery and Martina McBride, said Jim Llewellyn, a spokesman for the fair.

“We have top-notch talent performing this year,” he said. “Our special events will once again be truly exciting.”

The fair will also have a mobile brewery sponsored by Budweiser, displaying how the beer is made, Llewellyn said.

A Rural Olympics with 12 events, including Model-T races, a tug of war and hay stacking will also be held.

Motorcycle races, free with admission, will be held Sept. 6 at 2 and 7 p.m.

Fair admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 55 years and older and ages 6 to 15, free for 5 and under. Members of the military get in free with identification.
