Malibu Returning to Normal as Water Pressure Is Restored
A boil-water advisory for Malibu residents was expected to remain in effect today as a precaution, as full water pressure to the seaside community was being restored after water main breaks near Big Rock Road.
Pacific Coast Highway, which had been closed to through traffic, was reopened Sunday afternoon.
Melinda Barrett, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, said that, as the result of an initial water main leak Thursday afternoon, 5,000 customers exhausted a 24-hour auxiliary supply of nearly 12 million gallons, kept in storage tanks for just such an eventuality.
“Then we discovered a second leak, which took us another 24 hours to repair,” Barrett said. And Malibu went without water.
