Giant Panda Gives Birth to 2 Cubs
From Times Wire Reports
A giant panda gave birth to twin cubs at the Beijing Zoo, China’s official New China News Agency reported. Yuanyuan’s cubs were born four hours apart, the agency said. Fewer than 1,000 of the highly endangered animals are left in China’s bamboo forests, and about 110 are in captivity. The animals are not prolific breeders, and the survival rate for cubs is low. Zoo official Huang Zhouqiang was quoted as saying Yuanyuan was a “hero mother” because she has over the years given birth to nine cubs.
