What’s happening the next few weeks:

* The Monterey Jazz Festival, now in its 42nd year, runs Sept. 17-19 and features concerts by the Chucho Valdes Quintet, Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band and Diana Krall, right. There also will be tributes to Duke Ellington, and Clint Eastwood hosts his favorite musicians playing jazz from his films. Grounds tickets, $25 for Friday, $32 for Saturday or Sunday, $79 for all weekend pass. Prices higher at the gate. Arena seats sold out. (925) 275-9255.

* Artists sell paintings, sculpture and photography at the Outdoor Art Festival on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-5, in downtown Carmel. Free admission. (831) 624-3996.

* The Monterey Museum of Art puts on display Sept. 25 “Gold Fever! The Untold Stories,” an exhibition about the California Gold Rush 150 years ago. At the Civic Center, 559 Pacific St., open Wednesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Through Nov. 28. $3. (831) 372-3689.

* The Honda Grand Prix of Monterey, part of the CART Champ series in auto racing, happens Sept. 10-12 at Laguna Seca Speedway, on Highway 68, 10 miles east of Monterey.
