The last summer of the millennium is almost history.

The signs are all around us: Schools open for business in coming weeks. Children appear appropriately pensive as “Back to School” sales are heralded everywhere you look. Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer with its traditional barbecues and last-minute trips out of town, beckons on the horizon. This weekend offers your last chance to sample the unhurried sweetness of the fading season.

Community summer concert series are drawing to a close. The Valley Cultural Center’s finale to its free Concerts in the Park series will be “A Salute to Hollywood” at 5 p.m. Sunday at Warner Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills. (818) 704-1587. Dale Kristien, Lorna Luft, Sally Kellerman and others will perform.

The 1970s-’80s rock act the Tubes perform during Santa Clarita’s final free summer concert Sunday at 5 p.m. at Newhall Park, 24933 Newhall Ave. (661) 298-ARTS [2787]. San Fernando and Burbank will both offer oldies as their summer’s swan songs. The Legends perform for free Sunday at 6 p.m. at Recreation Park, 208 Park Ave., San Fernando. (818) 898-1290. Shakespeare on the Green’s alfresco production of the Bard’s comedy “As You Like It,” in Griffith Park, will offer its final two performances Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. near the Old Zoo site off Griffith Park Drive. (619) 450-6378. Free.
