THE READER’S PAGE : Cool Seaport
Having just returned from a first-time visit to New York City, I tripped out on Jenny Tripp’s article on South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan (“Fun on the Waterfront,” Aug. 15). This area is, indeed, a “fun” and refreshingly “cool” place, weather-wise and otherwise, to visit in the city.
Readers also need to be aware that there is a cost-effective alternative to the Circle Line’s $12 Liberty Cruise, which promises wonderful views of Lower Manhattan as well as Liberty and Ellis islands. Those same views can be obtained from the Staten Island ferry, which is free and departs regularly from Battery Park.

South Street Seaport is the greatest place to visit! I live in New York half the year, and the seaport has so much to offer. Your two-page layout was wonderful.
There is so much to see from the seaport. The pier has a three-story mall with all the shops, and performers come and have their own shows on the street. It is an experience. From the seaport, you see the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline.
Next month, when I go back, I will take the two-page layout with me. It is like a little guide.
