A Simi Valley man was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on charges of carjacking, kidnapping and robbery for allegedly forcing a man into the trunk of a car Sept. 19 and demanding that the victim drain money from his bank account.

Christopher Evangelista Scull, 20, was bound over for trial on those charges and an added count of attempting to evade a police officer.

Scull, who has pleaded not guilty, called no defense witnesses during a preliminary hearing before Ventura County Superior Court Judge Charles McGrath.

Alan Kabakoff, 47, of Thousand Oaks was placing his bicycle into the trunk of his white Pontiac in the 800 block of West Main Street in Ventura when a man approached and pulled a gun.

Kabakoff was ordered into the car and told to drive to his bank to withdraw cash. At one point, the gunman told Kabakoff to stop the car and get into the trunk, according to Ventura police.

The gunman drove to Granada Hills, police said, where Kabakoff was able to escape after prying open the trunk and jumping out when the car slowed to a stop. He was not injured.

Scull is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 14.
