Students and staff at Sonora High School are gearing up for the annual Sonora Holiday Food Drive, raising money and collecting food, clothing and toy donations for 40 needy La Habra families. The school is hoping to raise $15,000 for the drive, which is sponsored by the science department, Principal Karla Taylor said.

On Dec. 18, hundreds of students, teachers and parents will gather at the school to organize the donations into holiday gift packages for each family. The students will then deliver the gifts to the families’ homes.

“It’s one of the most incredibly inspirational things,” Taylor said, noting that this year’s goal of helping 40 families is Sonora’s most ambitious yet. “It consumes the whole school and to some extent our whole community.”
