UC Santa Barbara advanced to the third round with a 15-6, 15-11, 14-16, 15-5 second-round victory over Loyola Marymount at Santa Barbara.
The Lions (20-11), with star outside hitter Sarah MacFarland playing only one game and getting no kills, hit only .220 as a team. The Gauchos didn’t do much better, hitting only .269. Jaimee Brubacher led the way for the Lions in MacFarland’s place with a match-high 19 kills. But she was the only Lion with double-figure kills. The Gauchos (21-8) had four players in double figures, led by Roberta Gehlke’s 17.

Janae Henry had match-highs with 15 kills and 13 digs as USC defeated Hofstra, 15-0, 15-9, 15-8, in the first round at USC. Jennifer Pahl added 10 kills and Tracy Lindquist had 41 assists for the Trojans (21-8).
Hofstra (26-6), which hit only .134, was led by Katiraj Enkelejda’s nine kills. The Trojans face Minnesota today at 6. The Golden Gophers defeated Sacramento State, 15-9, 15-10, 15-10.

Sophomore Melissa Snow had a match-high 10 kills as No. 9 Pepperdine defeated Arkansas State, 15-3, 15-2, 15-5, in the first round at Malibu. The Waves (25-3) will face Michigan State (21-12) tonight at 7.
Pepperdine hit .442 while holding Arkansas State (28-7) to .024. Arkansas State had only 15 kills the entire match, the Waves had 16 in the first game.

Sixth-seeded Westmont defeated No. 4 Georgetown of Kentucky, 4-15, 15-8, 15-7, 16-14, in the NAIA women’s volleyball quarterfinals at Fresno. The Warriors (28-9) will play No. 1 Columbia of Missouri (38-0) today at 10 a.m.
