A bicyclist was in serious condition with major head injuries Saturday after colliding with a van in Oxnard.

Macario Marin Mendiola, 19, of Oxnard was riding a mountain bike eastbound on Ventura Boulevard between Rose and Vineyard avenues about 11:45 a.m. when a 1992 Dodge Caravan passed him on the left, officials said. Mendiola swerved into the van’s path and was struck by the van’s right front fender.

Mendiola was not wearing a bicycle helmet and had been drinking, officials said.

He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center and was scheduled to be transferred Saturday night to Ventura County Medical Center.
