Cal State Fullerton Women Still Winless

Cal State Fullerton remains winless after a 79-53 loss to Portland in a nonconference women’s basketball game Sunday in Portland.

The Pilots (4-4) began the game with a 7-2 run and never trailed. After Portland built its lead to 11 with just under nine minutes remaining in the period, Fullerton cut the lead to six with five minutes remaining in the half. Portland then went on a 13-4 run to close out the half with a 39-24 lead.

The Titans (0-4) began the second half with a 7-2 run, which cut the lead to 10, but they couldn’t get any closer and consecutive jumpers by Sarah Green and Trish Felts put the Pilots back up by 14. Portland led by as many as 27 points late in the game, shooting 42% in the second half.

The Titans were outrebounded, 49-36, and committed 23 turnovers compared to 17 for Portland. Fullerton was led by senior Niesha Cleveland with 12 points and four rebounds. Teammate Heather Hansen had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Portland was led by Green with 19 points and 16 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end, and freshman guard Ashlee Giles, who had 17 points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks.
