LACMA to Screen Morris’ ‘Mr. Death’

LACMA will present a preview screening of Errol Morris’ “Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter,” a documentary on a leading figure in the Holocaust denial movement on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Bing Theater. The film will be followed by an on-stage conversation with Morris and Variety film critic Todd McCarthy.

The screening launches two evenings of Morris’ provocative documentaries. Morris’ chronicles of offbeat Americana--”Gates of Heaven” (1978), “Stairway to Heaven” (1998) and “Vernon, Florida” (1981)--screen Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Screening Saturday at 7:30 p.m. are Morris’ two major documentaries, “The Thin Blue Line” (1988), Morris’ probe of Texas-style justice that resulted in the exoneration of a death row convict, and “A Brief History of Time” (1992), in which Stephen Hawking explains his view of the nature of the universe.
