It’s rare to hear a woman sing these days on KROQ-FM (106.7), but the modern-rock bastion is spiking the testosterone punch at its 10th annual Almost Acoustic Christmas with a dose of female voices--Tori Amos, Fiona Apple and Save Ferris’ Monique Powell. They’ll be joined by Beck, Blink-182, Bush, Foo Fighters, Oasis, Powerman 5000 and 311.

A variety of traditions find common ground in “Klezmer, Salsa & Mamaloshen,” a cross-cultural musical festival that includes ensembles led by klezmer clarinetist Leo Chelyapov with fellow clarinetist Abe Most; the salsa band of trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez; and cantor Judy Fox, who will perform Yiddish and other traditional and popular music.

Windham Hill Records, home to impressionistic, acoustic instrumentalists of all types, celebrates the season with its annual Winter Solstice Tour, this year including guitarist David Arkenstone, pianist Liz Story, guitarist-bassist Sean Harkness and the ethereal sounds of the Angels of Venice, a California-based quartet of musicians who blend medieval, Middle Eastern and neoclassical styles.
