The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved two projects this week that will improve a bridge and a dam in the northeast San Fernando Valley.

Pacoima Dam will receive a $10.3-million upgrade that includes construction of a control house, helicopter pad and enlarged spillway and improved valve control, electrical and mechanical systems.

The county Department of Public Works will administer the project, which is scheduled to start in March and take about 550 working days.

The Glenoaks Boulevard bridge over Pacoima Wash in San Fernando will also be upgraded at a cost of between $83,000 and $100,000, according to a spokesman for Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.

The seismic safety improvements are expected to take 40 working days, with work expected to begin in April and be completed in June.
