Strong Second Half Puts Irvine Valley Past Mt. San Jacinto
Irvine Valley made 21 of 28 shots in the second half and defeated Mt. San Jacinto, 91-71, in a Riverside men’s basketball tournament consolation game Thursday.
The Lasers shot 61.7% from the floor. Freshman forward Mike Ahmad made 11 of 18 shots, scoring 22 points for Irvine Valley (6-3). Ahmad also had 12 rebounds and teammate Earl Sanchez had 11 assists.
In the Hancock women’s basketball tournament:
Golden West 61, Yuba 53--Tracy Twellman had 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead Golden West into the semifinal game against Hancock tonight. Amy Pace contributed 14 points and Kelly Medlen had 10 for the Rustlers (6-2).
In the Los Angeles Valley tournament:
Santa Ana 67, Mt. San Antonio 57--Atari Parker had 29 points, 10 rebounds, nine steals and six assists for Santa Ana (10-1). Lisa Arcangel added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Dons.
