Butler Unhappy With Role

Green Bay safety LeRoy Butler broke a personal media boycott to vent his feelings about his lack of involvement in the Packer defense.

Butler spent the last decade as one of the league’s best blitzing safeties, but in new defensive coordinator Emmitt Thomas’ scheme, Butler rarely goes to the line of scrimmage.

He has only one sack this season.

“It doesn’t matter who it bothers, but we’ve got to get me more involved,” Butler said. “We have to go back to the basics. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist around here to know that when I make plays, we win.”

Minnesota Viking owner Red McCombs lashed out about the inconsistency of star receiver Randy Moss.

Against the Chiefs on Sunday, Moss scored touchdowns on a 12-yard pass play and a 64-yard punt return but also dropped two passes and lost the ball twice on fumbles, once after a catch inside the Chief 10 and another when a punt ricocheted off his chest.

“I don’t know why he is spectacular one moment and certainly less than so at other moments,” McCombs said.

“But if he is going to be the kind of player that all of us think that he’s going to be, well then he’ll have to focus more on the spectacular side and a little less on the garbage side.”
