Anti-Cruising Law Cuts Traffic
City officials say a survey shows that a city anti-cruising ordinance that went into effect in Old Pasadena three months ago has dramatically reduced the number of vehicles in the area on weekends.
The law imposes a $271 fine for driving past a designated spot more than three times in a four-hour period along Colorado Boulevard on Friday and Saturday nights. To keep track, Pasadena police type license plate numbers into hand-held computers.
Between a survey on a July weekend and another in November, the number of vehicles on Colorado Boulevard between Pasadena Avenue and Arroyo Parkway dropped 41%, city officials said. After the law was enacted and portable message signs went up to warn motorists, not a single driver has been ticketed, police said.
