A traditional Latino holiday procession, Las Posadas, will begin at 6:30 tonight at the Valencia Community Center, 301 W. Valencia Drive, and end at the Boys and Girls Club. 410 S. Richman Ave. Children and adults will sing and perform the roles of innkeepers in Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to rest.

A traditional Las Posadas begins nine days before Christmas and continues through Dec. 24. Each night, a group of role-playing carolers knocks on residents’ doors and asks for a place to sleep. They are refused throughout the first eight days and welcomed on the last.

Although Fullerton’s procession will last just one night, Alejandra Rodriquez said it’s still a valuable tradition, especially for children.

“It’s important for all the kids to know about the birth of Jesus so they can have something to believe in,” she said.
