* PEPPERDINE (6-2) VS. DETROIT (5-2) AT SAN JUAN SHOOTOUT, 8 a.m. PST: The Waves are riding a three-game winning streak but have not played in more than a week because of final examinations. Detroit, which knocked off UCLA in the first round of the NCAA tournament last season, boasts one of the nation’s top scorers in guard Rashad Phillips. An excellent long-range shooter, Phillips averages 26.4 points and is shooting 51.9% from the field, 44% from three-point range and 94% from the free-throw line. Guard Brandon Armstrong leads Pepperdine with a 15.8 scoring average. Forward Tommie Prince averages 11 points. The Waves will play either Miami or Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday. Also in the tournament are Auburn, Illinois State, Virginia Tech and Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
