A New York land owner donated a piece of prime real estate nestled along the Pacific Ocean last week to the city to develop a mini park. Joseph E. Brown Jr. gave the city land that he had inherited from his parents, who lived in Laguna Beach.

The donated land, valued at $1.3 million, is described by City Manager Kenneth C. Frank as one of the most significant gifts in the city’s history. Frank said it is the largest donation the city has ever received. After six months of negotiations, the city was able to obtain the quarter-acre property on 551 S. Coast Highway. The new park adds to the city’s 22 existing parks.
