It’s too late to order off the Net for Christmas, unless you want to pay exorbitant shipping fees. And many of the Christmas sites that feature recipes aren’t a whole lot better than your own files. So what’s a holiday Web surfer to do? We’ve had a bit of fun monkeying around at Claus.com, a multi-part Web site mainly for kids that also has recipes from Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen.

You and the little ones can make some of Santa’s favorites, such as the Santa Shake, a Bowl Full of Jelly and the Yule Log Frog (celery filled with cream cheese and dotted with two pimento-filled olives.) Or fashion something for the reindeer when they arrive, maybe a Banana Blitzen or--our favorite--Christmas Pickle on a Stick. (Rudolph must like dills.) Games, sing-alongs and a place to e-mail Santa Claus are part of the site, from an Atlanta Internet firm.

The kids will have fun with the site’s animated screens, including one of elves helping Mrs. Claus cook. And if your eyes have glazed and your mind is mud from too much shopping and stress, you too can enjoy Mrs. Claus’ kitchen. The chaos there will make you glad it’s not your own.
