Collision Near Somis Kills Oxnard Man

A 31-year-old Oxnard man was killed east of Somis on Saturday after the car he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle.

The man, whose name has not been released, may have been intoxicated, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Holt said.

Authorities said the victim was driving west on California 118, west of Balcom Canyon Road, about 5:30 p.m. when he swerved into the eastbound lane and struck an oncoming vehicle.

The family of four in that car suffered moderate injuries, and all were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. All four were wearing seat belts, authorities said.

The Oxnard man was taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital, where he died at 6:50 p.m. of head injuries, authorities said.

Holt said he smelled alcohol at the crash scene, and added: “Eyewitnesses who called 911 said 1/8the driver 3/8 was weaving all over the place, driving back and forth all over the road.”
