Hebert Trying to Be Patient

Duck goaltender Guy Hebert sat out Monday’s 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, the second consecutive start he has missed because of neck spasms. Dominic Roussel got the call.

“I’m hoping to play at some point on this trip,” Hebert said. “ 1/8But 3/8 I want to make sure I’m not going to do anything that will keep me out longer.”

The Ducks’ four-game trip continues Wednesday against the Flames at Calgary and Friday against the Stars at Dallas.

“It’s coming along quite well,” Hebert said of his injury, suffered during a first-period collision with Phoenix’s Keith Tkachuk in the Coyotes’ 8-2 victory last Wednesday.

“My head snapped back and went, ‘Pop.’ My neck was sore for a couple of days.”

Hebert went through a lengthy workout at Monday’s morning skate, but did not suit up for the second game in a row.

Hebert is among the NHL leaders in victories (13), shutouts (three), goals-against average (2.09) and save percentage (.924).

But he hasn’t given the All-Star game much thought.

His wife, Sarah, has been checking the latest fan voting for the North American team for him. Hebert trails Toronto’s Curtis Joseph, among others, by a wide margin.

“It would be nice, no doubt about it,” Hebert said when asked about being selected. “There are a lot of great goalies having good years. It was quite an honor when I got to go in San Jose.”

Hebert stopped 10 of 11 shots in a third-period appearance for the Western Conference in the 1997 game at San Jose Arena.

“It doesn’t take anything away from the season I’m having if I’m not selected,” Hebert said. “The team is doing well, so that’s what matters most.”
