It probably never occurred to Humphrey Bogart that January, 2000 would be his kind of month, but sure enough he is the man of the moment, judging by the programming at two of L.A.’s respected purveyors of cinema. The New Beverly Cinema will screen two of the iconic actor’s best-known and best-loved films, “Casablanca” and “Key Largo,” Saturday through Tuesday, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will kick off a four-week Bogart retrospective on Tuesday with a matinee screening of “Angels With Dirty Faces.”

Walt LaRue brings the Old West alive with his presentation of cowboy music and humor at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. A cowboy, stuntman, cartoonist and storyteller-humorist, LaRue has been performing since the 1940s. This event is all part of the museum’s Wells Fargo Western Serenade music series, which runs through March 26.

The Long Beach Sea Festival turns the clock back a century or two during the first two days of the 2000s. Passengers will be able to sail on replicas of 18th and 19th century ocean vessels. All five featured tall ships are more than 100 feet long and will be manned by crews attired in period clothing. Cannon battle reenactments involving the vessels will be highlighted each afternoon. Free guided tours of the ships will be offered Sunday only between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

For a third year, Jorge Mester and his Pasadena Symphony offer a holiday entertainment called “Salute to Vienna.” The show consists of operetta arias and excerpts, plus Strauss waltzes, polkas and marches, and other music of the Austrian capital. Soloists this year are stars of the Vienna State Opera: soprano Anna Maria Pammer and tenor Otoniel Gonzaga. Also performing are dancers from the San Diego Ballet.

Bliss, an all-day dance party, begins at 2 p.m. and continues till the groovy cows come home (nigh around last call at 2 a.m.). A blissful spinoff of one of L.A.’s newest electronica clubs, Bliss is taking over L.A.’s Club Voodoo. Such deejays as Juan Atkins, Eddie Fowlkes, Frankie Bones, Danny Cosmo and Taylor are scheduled to man the turntables throughout the marathon event. Promoters (Green Galactic and Blissed Out Productions) must have caught the millennial bug, because they are offering an open bar from 2 to 4 p.m. (that’s free drinks, folks). Shagedelic, baby.
