SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to hire a consultant to design plans for the city’s annual residential street maintenance contract and the widening of an intersection.

Norris-Repke Inc. was hired for $19,865 to draft a design proposal that involves the rehabilitation of nine streets and the widening of the Loma Street and Cerro Villa Drive intersection.

“They will do the design and evaluate what the strategy is for maintenance,” City Engineer Gary Johnson said.

The streets include Mesa Drive from Crestview Circle to Cerro Villa Drive; Janice Circle north of Serrano Avenue; Robin Way west of Lemon Street; Nichols Avenue north of Taft Avenue; Hillcrest Avenue from Center Drive to Lemon Street; Wildwood Way and Wildwood Circle north of Taft Avenue; Providence Drive from Aberdeen Lane to Lincoln Street; Mountain View Circle west of Featherhill Drive; Canyon Circle west of Loma Street.

City officials estimate the improvements will cost about $250,000 to repair cracked and worn slurry sealed surfaces on the nine residential streets and to construct a new curb and gutter on Cerro Villa Drive and Loma Street.

The consultant company could have a design proposal completed as early as February.
