Walt Disney Co.’s ABC Inc. said it has promoted Robert F. Callahan to president of broadcasting, putting the head of the No. 2 media and entertainment company’s radio division in charge of its television stations as well.

The appointment is effective immediately. Callahan, 47, will report to Robert Iger, president of ABC.

The broadcasting president position has been vacant since June 1998, when longtime Disney executive Steve Burke left the company to join Comcast Corp. as head of its cable-television unit. Callahan, an 18-year veteran of ABC, will take on the responsibility of overseeing its TV stations, TV sales, radio stations and radio networks.
